We provide help in several locations:

    a. In the QLM management Console, you can access the help by clicking the ? button in the top right hand side.

    b. On our community site (where you are reading this response now).

    c. Video Tutorials

    d. Samples (the Get Started wizard in the QLM Management console will help identify the sample that meets your requirements)

    1. Features are documented in the QLM Management Console help under Overview / Embed features in a license key

    2. This is a very general question. We have several step by step guides that are tailored to the type of application that you want to protect..

    3. The binaries that you need to distribute are documented in the online help and on our support site.

    4. I do not understand what's an old style EXE.License validation is performed via our API.

    5. We recommend that you digitally sign your binaries to prevent hackers from modifying them. Our binaries are digitally signed.

    Thanks for the answer John,

    1. You have all those tutorials on configuring things, but I cannot find a single one that explains what I am configuring.  All the tutorials are written by people who know too much (probably the engineers) and assume too much.  A step by step guide does not explain what things are, only how to configure them.  I need to know why they are configured.

    a. What is a feature?

    b. How does the QLM configure things on a client system when it is installed on a development box?

    c. What files go where?

    5. Digitally signing doesn't prevent hacking, it just authenticates.

    John,

I still don't know ANYTHING about a feature.  WHAT IS IT?  If a "feature" is how something is embedded in the license, why not just say so?  And it doesn't explain how to embed strings or numbers, or how to retrieve them programmatically.  The QLM tutorials just say how to add a generic feature, not what it is or how to use it.  You need a basic tutorial on how it all works, not just assume people know this stuff.  I am getting a bit frustrated here at the lack of answers.  At least answer your phone when I call.  I am getting close to recommending to my boss to drop Soraco.

I see in another forum entry that "feature" isn't even what I wanted.

    • > "Features" are only bools, while "Product Properties" have other types

    >> Correct, Product Properties can be bool, int or string

That just makes me angry - why didn't you say that two weeks ago?

*sigh* Please send me some information explaining things!  What is a feature?  What is a "Product Property"?  How do I create and/or decode the license programmatically?  I assume the API.  I CANNOT use this without more information!  I have tried to code this from your example, but there is a lot missing.

I have provided you with the documenation that we have available.

The APIs for managing product properties are:

    GetProductProperties

    SetProductProperties

    ValidateSignature

The LicenseValidator class that is automatically generated by the "Protect Your Application" wizard also includes 2 methods to store / read the product properties file on the end user system: look for WriteProductPropertiesFile and ReadProductPropertiesFile in the LicenseValidator class.
